Not sure this is related to your issue, but a recent update to the
stock 2.6.24-16-generic kernel essentially prevented my T61 from
booting properly.  It would start to boot, and then hang at the
message "waiting for root file-system".  Unfortunately, I did not have
the time to investigate this problem, so for now, I'm just booting
2.6.24-14-generic.
