I would use rsync in a script... see the docs. If you are more comfortable
with a gui type application and have a mix of OS's take a look at WinSCP3 (
http://winscp.sourceforge.net/eng/ ) file manager, which runs on Windoz, is
GPL licensed, sports a commander style split window, uses ssh, drag and
drop, will keep remote and local files/directories current by transferring
only the changes. I use it at work as a tool on a mix of linux, Win32
machines, which is where I am now. Its not a 'backup' tool per se but it
might work for you if your needs are simple. That said, take the time to
learn how to use rsync... it is a nifty, versatile tool.

Subject: [Tfug] backups?
i'd like to back up some files on 3 linux machines on my local network.
It's really just home directories and cvs that i care about. I don't
have a tape drive, just a cd writer and the hard drives on the 3
machines themselves. I started looking at amanda, but it seems to be
highly dependent on a tape drive. Is there any free program that will
help me do this? And what is the best backup strategy with my
resources? copying files around, or burning data to a bunch of cd's, or
both?
Thanks for the help!
