Dont be an idiot. Why would there be an industry that manufactured and sold
police scanners if using them was an arrestable offense? By your logic,
there should be a squad car parked infront of every Radio Shack to check to
see if you've bought a scanner, and arrest you on the spot if you have.

Police radio transmissions are left open intentionally. You have a right to
know what your local police are up to, but you do NOT have the right to
interfere--- If you try to _broadcast_ over police frequencies, you go to
jail. You'll also go to jail if you're using a scanner as part of an illegal
activity, i.e. you and your buddies want to drag race down Speedway, and
want to know if there are any cops around. Haven't you ever read the
friggin manual that comes with your scanner?

> How would I know it was not for me unless I intercept it? Does this
> also apply to CB radios?

Again, don't be an idiot. Think. CB = CITIZENS BAND. The FCC set aside a
portion of the spectrum for Joe Citizen to tinker with. Its left open
intentionally.

Spare me the extra chromosome in the future. Nothing irks me more than
someone who would rather flap their gums than use their head. "Why do the
police fail to arrest those of us with scanners?" ....Jesus christ.
