Bowie:

We've had our ups and downs, but let me say, for what it's worth...you hit 
the nail right on the head with this one.  In fact, you used a nailgun.

A few things, that I know specifically:

1) There are laws governing the use of home-made antennaes
2) The expectation of privacy exists with most wireless devices of this type.
3) Attempting to procure a lease *is* accessing a network without 
authorization.
4) If you try and crack WEP, this is circumventing security further and has
    all sorts of other "hacking" and encryption laws behind it.


A bad anology to this is scanning.  There is nothing illegal about listening to
radio transmissions.  If you try and join in--then it's a crime.

Now, nobody is going to go to the pen for 20 years for driving around and 
being a wanker, but if you did it to the wrong company or person, they 
could indeed make your life a bit more complicated than you had anticipated.
