Avoiding the standard MS setup of using the admin account as the
default will help give peace of mind in toward remaining virus free.
It's worth the trouble of creating a (what XP terms "limited") user
account for any online use. It's awkward, but more convenient than
having to clean up after being virus infected.

Then to install an app, one has to switch to the admin login to
install. Definitely not as convenient as the Linux / Unix family way
of having a root term window handy on the desktop to revert to execute
a task requiring full system access privileges.
