Claude, most laptops do indeed have internal "dual head" capability.
This is one thing that's easier to set up via a GUI interface in the
newest distros, including Ubuntu Intrepid.

I'm able to do true dual-head with my Intel x3100 (also known as 965)
video card. Most of the IBMs used ATI Radeon 9000 or 9600 video cards
which are if anything even better at that stuff, with good open source
drivers.

You want some of the newest xorg parts in place for that stuff, so a
cutting-edge distro is key. If you're running real Debian as I think
you are, you may need to go to Sid (or Siddux?) to get there.

Just maybe you can start a late-model Ubuntu livecd, configure
dual-head from that and then copy the xorg.conf file?

Jim
