Actually, I'm not arguing with the "numbers" -- whatever those may be
- -- so much as pointing out an obvious straw-man argument.  For
example, how can Linux be dead as a "mainstream desktop", when it
never really acquired this distinction in the first place?  In truth,
I think one could argue that many Linux desktop users care little or
even less about "mainstream".

Well, if there was a ship, then I suppose it would need to sail
somewhere, otherwise what good would it be? ;-) Nevertheless, I fail
to see what is this "window of opportunity" that was missed.  Are you
guys are still wound up from the Superbowl, or something?
