I have had one good reason to use 10Mbit hub.  I needed to go 1200 feet.  I
the link setup signals for 100Mbit would go 600 feet, but the data couldn't
make it.  With a simple hardware modification I did my version of POE to a
10Mbit hub in the center of the run.  The hub forced the link setup down to
10Mbit half duplex.  (The link allowed my friends to drop one of their
satellite Internet services too.)  - Louis
