What if you tweaked your shell environment so that
'rm' was actually 'rm -i' (which forces you to confirm
deletion before you actually delete) ?

I know that's out of the spec, but it might help...I don't
use an 'emulated recycle bin', but I do have a decent
amount of backups to cover my ass in case I do
screw up.  :)
