The University maintains a local version of Cornell Spider (a program
for detecting "personal information").

I don't have convenient access to a Debian-style machine, but we'd like
to distribute a .deb package for Ubuntu and similar... sooner rather
than later (faculty can be so demanding!).

If anyone is bored tonight would you pull the release branch from
git://git.uits.arizona.edu/spider.git

and produce a static binary package for i386 and/or x86_64 ? A SPEC file
is included in the tree if it would be helpful to see what we do to
produce the rpm packages.

I'll fire up a VM to do this is the future, but my primary dev platform
is PPC and bochs is slow. Having a .deb package from someone who knows
how to do it would buy me time to figure Debian packaging out.
Alternatively, if someone wanted to volunteer as a "package maintainer",
I'll credit you in the source distribution (fame!).

If you are really, *really* bored I'd appreciate any testing / bug
reporting / patch submissions that you'd like to do on the application
itself.

Thanks,
Shawn
