VMWare server is quite free. I normally run it and then close the vmware server console and use rdesktop or vnc to get to the client. Works great.

VMWare ain't free... no deal. Seriously though, try andLinux sometime.
It absolutely blows my mind. I basically have Linux running in
user-mode on top of windows and have access to a full KDE menu and can
open up documents in Kate or Konqueror from within Windows Explorer.
This is better than VMWare.
