[Tfug] keeping the FOSS spirit alive on a windows box

After many years of living happy and free on a Debian box, I took up a
job which requires me to use WinXP as the OS of choice... not ideal
but there are some pretty nifty solutions. So if there are other
people like me looking for alternatives, this may help

andLinux -> andlinux.org (a full Ubuntu distro wrapped inside a
coLinux shell) Runs Ubuntu at near native speed and boots up very
quickly and shares all device resources with windows. This runs at the
same speed as Firefox in WinXP. I prefer to run Firefox inside Linux
just to be further insulated from spyware/virus issues. This flavor of
Linux doesn't get near enough publicity with VMWare hogging all the
headlines.. but having used them both... IMHO andLinux is just faster,
and easier to deal with.

BB4Win -> http://www.bb4win.org/news.php (run Blackbox as the default
windows manager)

Plus you have the usual Openoffice/Gnome office, GIMP, Inkscape and
other goodies that you can run natively within Windows.

Hope it helps.

Ranjan
