(catching up with this thread, very interesting)

"Don't complain about not having someone to hold your hand in learning an OS if you don't want to invest the time to take a class."

This is it, in a nutshell. It takes time. Everything done on a computer takes time to learn, even with Windows. When someone says, "I want it to just work", they aren't taking into consideration the learning curve they've already climbed. There are plenty of adults yet today getting a taste of computers for the first time, and they seem dumber than a box of rocks to another that has used a computer even for just a few years. For that 'newbie' even windows is greek, and a few throw up the hands in frustration in the absence of someone willing to hold their hand.

I know a lady that has refused to take the time to utilize the resources on the Internet to learn how to use her windows box. She had it for years and struggled with basic stuff until her kids crashed the HD. Someone told her a Mac would be easier to use, so she bought one. Then what does she do? She pays $100 to take some 1-on-1 once a week to learn how to use some of the software on the computer. In the end, she will tout Apple as being 'easier', because that is what she learned on, never even considering that she may have done the same with windows or linux.
