[Tfug] Linux + firewire external drive + intel macbook?

Hi,

I'm trying to get linux booting off of a firewire drive attached to my
macbook.  I installed refit and installed Ubuntu on the firewire
drive, and put grub on the drive too, but it won't boot with refit.

Anyone have experience with this?  Do I need to try to put grub on my
internal drive?  It looks like the refit page says that's OK, but I'm
not sure, and I don't want to screw up my OS X boot.
