I used a TDR in the service to make sure the wires and cables in the various avionics systems were as long as they were supposed to be. It would tell you how far a short or break was. Nice little machine....

> the first time?Yes the TDR type tester they use basically has a certification on eachindividual port they tested. The Wikipedia article on Time-domain reflectometer looks pretty good...if anyone's wondering what a TDR is.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-domain_reflectometer(That's how they can tell you by the inch how long your cable is too btw)By Console cable yes that would mean what Cisco calls a "rollover cable"- basically one end of the cable is a mirror image of the other:1 - 32 - 23 - 1etc, all the way up to 8The other explanation given by George Cohn on this stuff looks good too :)-Eric_______________________________________________Tucson Free Unix Group - tfug at tfug.orgSubscription Options:http://www.tfug.org/mailman/listinfo/tfug_tfug.org
