[Tfug] Our website

Forgive me, I respond to email from the top...

I believe "I am not sure of the arrangement with dakotacom" explains my ignorance in regards to your contract with Dakotacom. I also believe that what you just stated confirms that you make the decisions for your domain "given we abide by their rules." You goof (*virtual smack*, ./b-slap, etc.). I understand Chuck's position at Dakotacom as he used to fill the shoes that Jeff is about to fill (I keep hearing the Disney tune in my head "it’s a small world after all..."). I am hoping that Jeff can take our department to another level, and I am anxious to hand him the budgeting paperwork, employee relations information, and everything else that goes along with the management role so that I can get back to my job. I am glad to hear that he will be missed at TEP (*sorry for you*) because I do not want someone that will create more havoc then we already have here. Our department has already setup a warm welcome for him for his first day *snicker, snicker*...

As far as the website goes...

I have spoken with a couple of the web developers that I know, and they are on board to help me develop a new website with the functionality, content, and graphical love that TFUG desires. We just need that subdomain and we will start getting a plan together to present to TFUG and get things rolling. Integrating a wiki of some sort sounds great, but I would prefer something like a knowledge base, or at least a wiki that could only be edited / approved by certain users. I also like some f the ideas that have been thrown around by other tfug members, and I would like to pick the brains of the developers as to their thoughts. I will send an email with the ideas they have in the next couple of days.

%Jon%: You know I was kidding about the virtual smack, right?

Thanks,

William E. Stott, IV
Staff Information System Engineer

I would suggest a sub-domain (devel.tfug.org) be created for work on the site so that everyone would be able to view the work done and approve it through the list. I am not sure of the arrangement with dakotacom, but I do believe that Chuck would not have an issue with this.

Chuck is the Director of Technology at DakotaCom and has nothing to do
with TFUG. That sounds snotty but I don't mean anything other than he
has nothing to do with TFUG. The server TFUG is housed on belongs to me,
is maintained by me and paid by me each month. What happens on there is
gonna be authorized by me not Chuck. Given we abide by their rules :)

Aside from that I like your idea, Will. If you're willing to take on the
project and try to involve other list memebers I can pretty much open up
the control panel to you so you can manage and delegate work. I would
like to hear some more ideas so I can gauge whether it's heading down
the right path though.

P.S. and a bit O.T.

*Will*: you're gonna enjoy working with Jeff, your new Global IT
Manager. He is a good guy. We're sad to see him leave TEP.
