Actually because they did!  Firefox is the open source version of 
Mozilla (Netscape).  They invented the browser way back when, only I 
think it was called Mosaic then.

Gates didn't think the Internet would amount to a hill of beans so he 
didn't create IE until after Netscape was a commercial success.  The 
only reason so many people use IE is because it is bundled with Windows.

Actually, I think it is really just an extension of Windows Explorer, 
hence the reason he couldn't "unbundle" it from Windows when he was told 
to.  To test this, just open explorer and type in a URL and it will go 
there.
