Sorry, that was really DUH!!!

I am running KUBUNTU 5.10. The firefox version is 1.0.7. I have connecti=
vity. Konqueror is connecting and opening webpages with no problem. Fire=
fox won't open anything.

Have you verified network connectivity?  ( i.e what exactly do you
mean by "Konqueror works"? )

Maybe the output of strace will be helpful.  ( i.e. try launching
firefox from a terminal with the following command ).

strace firefox 2>firefox.trace
