The way it is works, which you probably know, is there is mga_drv.o and
mga_hal_drv.o. The source code for mga_drv is open source, but
mga_hal_drv.o is based on a closed source .a library. So if you go to
matrox.com and look on their forums, there are instructions on how to
stick the .a library into an X source tree and get it to compile a hal
driver. It's possible but i'm not sure w/o looking at a file listing
that the hal is included with debian's X, but I doubt it. But matrox
does specify that anyone can distribute the .a library no strings attached.
