I think Pegasus uses mbox format for it's folders.  You can convert
these to maildir with mb2md (A small script)

What I have done is move almost 100% to IMAP (my usgs.gov address only
supports Lotus Notes and POP3 currently), and store all of my mail in
Maildir format on the servers.

espri.arizona.edu account: 1.2GB
zappa.osef.org account 1: 403MB
zappa.osef.org account 2: 795MB
actlabs account: 20MB
azintl.edu: 163MB

Evolution does a great job of dealing with the mail, but I would suggest
procmail filters and hord web interface as well.
