Allow me to recommend a dedicated firewall distro, look at 
IPcop http://www.ipcop.org/ ... runs fine on machines from 
486-class w 20mb RAM on up.  I build IPcop mini-boxes for 
clients for around $350 but if you have an old PC you can do 
it yourself for much less.
