Thanks.  After a few hours I got it all working.  I believe the solution 
using their GUI configuration was either to uncheck some option about 
hot something or other and to ignore their stubborn attempts to install 
another package.

I worked with the low level stuff for a while and was partially 
successful like being able to ping the router.  Their structure seems 
somewhat more convoluted than Debian.
