I have a Mandrake machine (8.0), and I sidetracked it in favor on
one that runs Debian 3.0. I do
recall seeing a GUI window that (you must run as root), that allows you
to set different security levels.
Linux users like to "look under the hood & tinker", but you can't do
that with Mandrake. You must
use their system of GUI interfaces to set: security levels, network
configuration, user accounts, etc.
One other thing. If the OS gets into problems such that you need
support from Mandrake you'll
have to pay for it. They have a subscription-based web page that
purports to have the answer
to all your problems.
Mandrake has processes that can take on a life of their own, for
example. Doing a kill -9 [pid]
will only temporarily remove a given process. They have a mechanism
that ractivates that process
in a few seconds, making a monkey out of the average Linux user, (me).
Cheers,
Erich
