What version of IRAF do you have?  Is it a Debian package?  I may be 
able to help you with this but it might not be before Monday.

As a slightly different related subject here, do Delete and arrows keys 
work on your setup in CL or only in the 'e' command?  This is something 
I am working on but I don't have the right data about what works where.
