My $.02...

I thought I read somewhere that OpenOffice was an "upgrade" to Star Office
5. Personally, I like the fact that it did not need a filter to open my old
Star Office files. I just checked, and my OpenOffice did not come with a WP
filter, but I did not go searching to see how easy it was to install. It's
also nice to "see" that OOo did not need to pull up a useless desktop to
just open a file. It only seems to open the program needed to open the file
specified, not the entire thing (emulation of M$ Office and their setup of
seperate segments that intigrate). I have used OOo and comparibly in speed,
it is as fast as MS Office on my Windows boxes.

The last I played with WP though (WP 7), it had a Word 6 filter. If it
still does, you would be able to save the file as Word, then utilize just
about any of the major word processors to open the word doc.

Again, this was just an opinion of personal experience.
