[Tfug] broken ssh sessions

I've got a little curiosity/annoyance here. When I ssh from my work
machine (UofA) to my home machine (cox) where I have all my mail, the
ssh session sometimes hangs.

The strange thing is that when it hangs I am usually in mutt, and
although there is no response, I can ssh in from another term and
connect imediately (so the connection is fine).

Even better, the broken connection sometimes comes back. After I have
typed some commands at mutt in the broken term, the connection will
occasionally start responding again after 2-3 minutes.

I have no idea how to debug this.  Any fixes for this would be huge, 
but even ideas on how to start tracking down problem would be welcome!
