Just got my new laptop: HP Pavilion zv5000z.
First order of business, get the heck rid of windows
XP.
So, I put in my trusty FreeBSD 4.10 install CD, shut
down the computer
and then turn it back on.
The boot seems to be going fine. I get the rotating
baton, and the 10
second countdown.
Then,I get a horizontal line (dash) that sits there
for a few seconds
and the whole computer shuts down.
Ok, so I'll try FreeBSD 5.2.1.
Same thing. I get the 10 second countdown at the boot
menu (no choice
of which works, by the way) and then get:
/boot/kernel/acpi.ko text=0x3f088 data=0x17 ... I
can't type that
fast.
and a horizontal dash, and after a couple seconds, the
computer shuts
down.
I have found a couple messages on the web that
indicate that I might
be able to get this thing to boot if I use floppies;
but my computer
doesn't have a floppy drive.
So here I am with winDOH!s XP.
Any help will be appreciated.
Here are the computer details:
HP Pavilion zv5000z
AMD Athlon XP-m 3000+ 1.60 GHz
512MB SDRAM (one card)
60 GB HD
4x dvd+/cd-rw drive
15.4" WXGA screen (1280x800)
64MB NVidia GeForce 4 440 Go
That's about it.
Much appreciation....
[previous also posted on comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.misc;
but I guess I stumped everyone there too.]
