You might want to truncate it to zero size depending on your
mail server configuration.  It's less common, but in some setups, the
server cannot create the spool file upon delivery.  As the admin, you
would probably know if this were the case, though.

For the curious, this can happen if you are using something like
procmail as the delivery agent and invoking it as the user.
