When he gets back from Khazakistan, I'll be sure to give that a try.
Considering how many people use Eudora, I'm always surprised at how bad it can
do some things.  Besides SSL, I've also had problems with Eudora's AUTH PLAIN
setup being non-standard.

Well, this person didn't do any email sorting, so everything was in the inbox
and outbox.  Thunderbird didn't have any problems with that, at least.
