Im not going to lie. The first time installing Gentoo is like pulling
teeth. But there are tons of docs at their website that are EXCELENT and
do a very nice job with the spoonfeeding. Lets just say, Im a seasoned
Gentoo user who started out with RedHat and I can say that Im so happy
with Gentoo, I use it on LITTERALLY everything, Including my Mac.
However, this is the downside...if you want to look at it that way.
Compiling the Big things like Gnome/KDE/OOo takes a while. When I lived
in Houston and had my Compaq with a TBird 900 with 384 Megs RAM, it took
a total of 16 hours to do a complete install, from Tarball to Gnome and
on my Mac, it took 48 hours to just compile Gnome whilest the base
install too 12. Moral of the story: Patience.
