[Tfug] Time to boycott Office Depot?

Perhaps you are right. Doesn't it look suspicious to you though aside
from that? I mean, why announce it in a press release unless OD is
trying to stir something in the marketplace for them or for M$?

Besides, OD support directs all Windows or XP related questions to M$
(this is usually the case whether it is XP or not, ex. "MyBookThingy
version 1.3 from 1987 for DOS") or the hardware manufacturer, ex. Sony,
HP, Compaq, Toshiba, etc... If the person calls M$, they are most
assuredly going to pay for the support (listening to musak on the
telephone for a couple hours). If it's XP or a new computer, the
consumer is not going to return something that they are already "forced"
to upgrade to. M$ is betting that they will suck it up and move on
without MyBookThingy version 1.3 and move on the M$BookThingy version 16
bugfix 100046.

Embrace, Extend, Extinguish. That's what it's all about. If only that
was OD's intentions for M$. Most likely it is the other way around though.

If you ask me, it is most certainly and without a doubt nefarious.

Either way OD no longer has my customer support. Either M$ is forcing
them or coherced them with the XP partner/reseller plan (which is just a
euphamism by M$ for 'forcing').
