ls, as provided by the bsd's, does not have a color option. In order to
get color ls, you need to to install the port 'gnuls'. it can be found
in /usr/ports/misc/gnuls. There is also a pacage available via ftp:
ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/3.1/packages/$ARCH/gnuls-4.1.tgz
I generally add the following line to my profile:
alias ls='gnuls --color=auto'
