  I picked up a firewire enclosure at Comdex last November and have been
using drives in it under Linux(!x86 even) ever since.  
  Using a recent 2.4 kernel it should be just a matter of pluging it in and
configuring "hotplug" to do what you want with it. As Harry said, it'll show
up as a SCSI drive and work from there.  That is a little bit of a problem
if you have other scsi drives, or multiple firewire or USB "storage devices"
as the device ordering will vary.  It's not a big problem, and there are
ways to avoid it.
