if your running Debian or Ubuntu try sudo apt-get install usbmount.
http://packages.debian.org/stable/usbmount
http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/usbmount
http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/usbmount

I've been using it a couple weeks now on an Ubuntu 12.04 server and it's
