[Tfug] OT: EllisLabs is looking for a home for CodeIgniter

On that page there is a reply that states "@Leevi - it doesn’t have any code implications for ExpressionEngine, as
we have been maintaining that separately from the public version of
CodeIgniter for some time. It is also not a signal of a full application
rewrite like what happened between versions 1 and 2, so no worries
there.".

EllisLabs has not been using the same CI as you and I for sometime.  Given that they have no need for a community supported CI.

I think it is just a business decision.  One of my friends thinks that CI is becoming mature enough to complete with EE which is a CMS framework build on some earlier and potentially highly modified CI.

I looked at EE briefly and do not like it at all.  I think it would be much easier to build a CMS using the current version of CI than with EE.  Of course I have not spent any really quality time with EE, just did not like what I saw when I looked into the room.

I didn't read it that way.  I thought they were saying they don't
have the resources (prioritized) to devote to their current *role*
in the project.  And, are (selfishly or unselfishly) looking for
someone else to pick up that responsibility to guide the project
along -- while they turn their attentions to other activities more
in line with their real project/product goals.

I.e., not that *they* won't continue to use it -- when its use is
warranted by their individual projects' goals.  But, rather, they'd
prefer to be more of a passenger on the big bus; not driver or
navigator.

"Responsibility" has associated costs.  Far more than those that
a mere *user* bears.
