I'm having exactly the same problem with my home-built desktop
running Ubuntu 10.04 and Gnome.
The CPU is AMD Phenom II X4, on an MSI motherboard.
I've tried every setting I can find in setup and in the power control
menu.
Let me know if you find anything.
