You know, it's funny, some periods Wicd works better, sometimes
Network Manager.  More of the time Wicd is the more stable.

BUT - there are three advantages to Network Manager:

* Support from a major source - Red Hat.

* Support for cellular modems.

* They're trying to let you share hardwire or cellmodem connections
over WiFi to make your computer a router/hotspot.

Wicd last I heard isn't attempting either of the two latter items.

Wicd is also going to be in trouble once NM8.x series hits, as it's
MUCH more solid.

To it's credit, what Wicd has is script support on
connecting/disconnecting from individual connections or SSIDs, a great
feature.
