...Sorta.

Darwin is to OS X what the Linux kernel is to your favorite distrib.

Darwin is a Unix kernel with it's roots in BSD. It's been worked on by Apple, but remains free. The operating system (OS X) is not.

I took some guff a while back about how I think we're moving into post-Linux times, and suggested that Darwin/x86 / Hackintosh is the direction we should be headed....that as a mainstream desktop OS, Linux is dead. KDE and GNOME's development structures (and their direction as projects in general) are not just deadlocked, they're backward. We're past the window of opportunity where the Linux community could have capitalized on Microsoft's blunder(s), and established itself as a viable alternative.

I still stand behind that..and similarly, still urge you guys to start looking over the horizon a bit toward greener pastures. I've been there for a few months now, and things are wonderful. :)

Here's a nice article on OS X's increasing popularity....aaaaaand how Linux marketshare isn't just flat -- it's falling. Something to scratch your chin about.
