Did it support it out-of-the-box or did you need to download and install it
from the 'net?

I have an old IBM Thinkpad A20m (PII-512mb RAM) I've installed both Ubuntu 7.x
and 8.04 on and neither "sees" my Xircom Realport2 Ethernet adapter, and from
what I've read this is a lost cause. I have several USB WiFi adapters
available, a NetGear WG111T, a DLink DWL-122 revA1 and a DLink DWL-G122, but
the instructions I've found online for the WG111T and the DWL-G122 suggest I
need to install some additional software and drivers from the install CDs for
the devices. The additional software requires a network connection which I
don't have.

Does anyone know if Ubuntu supports devices like this USB-to-Ethernet out-of-
the-box?

Maybe it's time to give up on this antique ...
