I don't know what you mean by a molded connector as all of the Cat 5 
cables I've ever were seen crimped.

There's no reason that a home crimped connector can't be as good as a 
commercial one, assuming you aren't using a $3 made in China crimper.  ;-)

And last time I looked, I think Elliot Electronics carries the rubber 
boots to make them snag-proof.
