[Tfug] VHDCI poser

Hi,

Sorry for the stewpit question but I've
little to no experience with these, so...

I have a small disk "shelf" with a pair of
VHDCI connections. OK, so this lets me
daisy chain to *another* shelf, right?
(or, split the bus *in* the shelf and treat
it as two "half-shelves" to two hosts, etc.)

But, I also have some little gizmos that
*suggest* they a sort of VHDCI "Y" adapter.
I.e., the "bottom" connector mates with the
VHDCI connector on the shelf. The *two*
"top" connectors then *appear* to take the
place of the connector *on* the shelf
(which is now "filled").

I haven't tried connecting to this so this
is just guesswork on my part (I am hesitant
to insert an unknown device into the signal
path of something working and LATER discover
that it has damaged or munged something
irrevocably!).

*If* my assumption is correct, this device
just creates a second VHDCI port in parallel
with the first -- and is only useful on a
device that only has ONE such port (?)

Is this true? What sort of devices have just
one such port (i.e., why would I ever need this)
Is the device entirely passive (as I have
suggested)? I.e. if I were to bust it open,
would I just find *wire*?

Thx,
--don
