Matthew,

I have a 2nd generation iPod touch and use Linux on my laptop. I have
discovered that with Windows XP running under VMware Server 2 the sync
features work, albeit slowly. My guess is that VMware Server 2 reports that
the USB hardware is 2.0 compliant but operates at 1.1 speeds. What is not
functional is updating the iPod touch firmware through this method. I'm not
entirely sure why that is but I can tell you confidently that it does not
work. Count on using a Mac or a Windows XP installed on hardware for that
purpose.

I tried VirtualBox and it would not work with the iPod touch at all. I have
not yet tested Xen because I don't yet have a processor with the
virtualization features. I will test this configuration in the second half
of January or early February when I receive my new desktop computer.

Personally, I'm very fond of my iPod touch and look forward to the music and
video syncing features working natively in future versions of Linux.

Ryan
