Position Summary:
    Assists in the implementation of the Campus Wireless Overlay Project for 
    the entire University of Arizona campus, and is Responsible for the 
    ongoing development, updating, and maintenance of the graphical 
    representation of wireless installation in building drawings and campus 
    maps.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

Operates highly technical software such as computer assisted design (CAD) to 
design, develop, and update the graphical depiction of the wireless 
installation in campus facilities and for external campus locations. Includes 
updating of building drawings, campus maps, and the creation of final as-
builts. 
* Coordinates with staff from external project management team to clarify 
information and produce needed documents, drawings and other information for 
the Campus Wireless Overlay Project. 
* Works with installation contractors. 
* Ensures installed access points (APs) appear in Cisco WCS and correctly 
position those APs on heat maps. 
* Troubleshoots any wireless turn-up problems by parsing switches to locate 
problem APs. 
* Works with help desk personnel troubleshooting customer client wireless 
issues. 
* Utilizes Ekahau Site Survey tool to assist in the planning, deployment, and 
troubleshooting of the campus 802.11a/b/g network. Completes post-installation 
verification surveys, to ensure sufficient wireless coverage for voice and/or 
data. 
* Maintains a centralized PHP database of wireless equipment. 
* Configures the wireless network utilizing Cisco WCS and Cisco WiSMs. Creates 
mobility groups and AP templates and maintains WLC configuration data. 
* Assists with other project tasks as needed such as verifying and 
troubleshooting campus switch hardware supporting the Campus Wireless Overlay 
Project.  



Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications:



Bachelor's degree in Communications System Engineering, Electrical
Engineering or related field, AND two years of data network experience; OR,
four years of communication systems implementation, operation or maintenance
experience including one year of experience with high speed circuit or
packet switched data networks; OR, any equivalent combination of experience,
training and /or education.



Preferred Qualifications:



Bachelor's degree in Communications System Engineering, Electrical Engineering 
or related field, AND three years of experience with high speed circuit or 
packet switched data networks, which includes one year of experience with 
Ekahau Site Survey and AutoCAD; OR, Five years of communication system design, 
implementation, operation or maintenance experience which includes two years of 
experience with high speed circuit or packet switched data networks, and 1 year 
of experience with Ekahau Site Survey and AutoCAD; OR, Any equivalent 
combination of experience, training and /or education.  
* Possess a desire to learn and share information within a strong team
environment.
* Knowledge of the principles, operation and capabilities of highly
technical process and graphic software such as computer aided design (CAD)
and other sophisticated software.
* Hands-on experience utilizing 802.11a/b/g wireless predictive site survey
tools.
* Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) with experience with 802.11a/b/g
networks in a Cisco Voice over IP (VoIP) environment.
* Knowledge of computer operating system methods and procedures.
* Knowledge of the principles and practices of systems software programming.
* Skill in the use of programming languages, hardware and protocols specific
to the assignment.
* Demonstrated experience with customer focused problem solving.
* Skill in effectively communicating technical subjects both orally and in
writing.
