I've found a lot of luck with XUbuntu.  It's easy to show people how to get
their own software and how to take upgrades via synaptic.  Actually, any
Ubuntu would be fine.  I think the advantage of XUbuntu is that it's ubuntu
and it has a lightweight window manager with good features.  You all

I think OS X would be a good millie OS, if it werent for the hardware issue.
:-(  I suppose any fairly modern APT-using distro with many/large
repositories and Darwin on top would be excellent.
