[Tfug] SATA controller cards and Gentoo

I'm rebuilding my home server and need a little advice. The machine is 
an Intel SAI2 motherboard currently running a bunch of PATA drives on 
Promise controllers. I'd like to move to a single SATA drive. I'm having 
a little trouble deciding what controller card to buy. After reading

I'm leaning towards a Silicon Image 3124 since it supports hot plug and 
NCQ. Can anyone with an installed SATA card comment on their experiences 
with SATA controllers.
