[Tfug] Virtualization

Ahh .. if it was only that easy!

When "VMware Server Console" (1.0.1 build 29996) starts, there's a window -
with no defaults -- that requires 3 entries: host, user name, and password.
Without a host or user name entry, the only active button is cancel.

I've entered localhost, Local Host, the name of my pc, and even tried my ip
address.

Any of the localhost types of names just barf - server not found or some
such thing.

My correct pc name and/or ip address, with correct windows username &
password give the following:
"Cannot connect to host xxxxx: No connection could be made because the
target machine actively refused it"

I hit cancel - and go to what appears to be the regular screen. Most menu
items are disabled. Any menu item like File/New just brings back the same
login screen.

I haven't disabled my firewall yet, I'm sure that's the thing -- do you know
if it uses any specific ports (like 5900 for vnc?) But I would have thought
that being local, it wouldn't have gotten messed up in my own firewall (a
disabled port, is a disabled port I guess).
