I assume you're implementing a right-to-use scheme on turnkey systems  
then? Your "trusted hardware" is the built in NIC. (Some of these  
newer dongles are a specialized USB NIC with no RJ45 socket.)

Seeing as the onus of hardware replacements is on you, you only need  
to ensure there won't be any issues with people doing their own  
"upgrades". Something legally binding.
