Well great in theory and all that, but if UPSs were designed to run  
at 0.4A or even 8A, they wouldn't sell many. (You want a UPS for your  
alarm clock?)

Lead acid batteries are very good at high discharge. (I imagine  
that's how they were discovered. *BANG!* "What was that?" "My  
fingernails")

Besides, it's not up to Sean whether he puts them in series or  
parallel. That was APC's decision. Without ripping the lid off, I  
guess shoving a continuity tester in there somewhere would give you  
the answer. A red-black beep means series. A black-black or red-red  
beep means parallel. Highly entertaining stuff and completely...  
interesting.
