[Tfug] IBM 5100 v. Holographic Computers

Okay, thanks. What I understand the point to be is that any new long-term
project should be started in an open-source format, and be as platform
independant as possible. Although this probably isn't the most efficient
method, it is playing it safe. Both of those I can agree with. The target
platform I was leaning towards was the *nix world simply because it is more
stable, which can matter for municipal computer systems. It isn't like 
I really
understand this stuff though.

My interest in the IBM 5100 legacy system is more general, however 
germaine. If
that system has some functionality that could be useful today, or tomorro, why
not integrate it into present or future systems? Should this be a task of
chipset makers, or programmers, or both? Anywho, whatever.
