I have several machines on a LAN on which ssh works fine. One machine doesn't have sshd running. When I do: sudo /etc/init.d/ssh start (or restart) I get the correct message about sshd starting or restarting but 'ps ax' does not show sshd running and, of course, I can't ssh to that machine. There also is no /var/fun/sshd.pid . TIA for ideas, Paul Scott
